At Zen Caregiving Project, we recognize caring for a family member or loved one as one of the most beautiful human acts we can possibly do. Scholar and Self-Compassion pioneer Dr. Kristin Neff writes: “Having compassion for yourself means that you honor and accept your humanness.” These sentiments are inspiring to hear, but we know that for many caregivers, it is often very difficult to extend much compassion to themselves. The pressures and uncertainties of family caregiving only add to the challenge. We recognize that compassion for ourselves is important, but how do we do it? What does it actually feel like? In this session, we will discuss self compassion, why it can be so difficult, and how to be kind to ourselves in any situation.
All are welcome to join as we discuss the benefits of self-compassion, and explore some exercises that help us experience it directly.
This free session will also include the opportunity for comments and a question and answer period along with a brief guided meditation suitable for all levels of experience.
